Flanagan: 'I knew I had to oppose Stirling.'
4.03.2016
Flanagan said that he was aware of exactly how he needs to oppose his former teammate Raheem Sterling in yesterday's match that finished with 3:0 over Manchester City.
The 23-year-old player made his first match in the Premier League after a 22-month break and was among the best on the pitch. Even before 30 seconds of the collision have passed, he came pretty hard, but clean at the feet of Sterling, who was replaced at halftime.
After the match, Flanagan received quite a bit of praise from his manager Juergen Klopp. 'The intervention against Sterling at the beginning was something I had to do to raise the spirit of the fans.', said the defender.
'The supporters were fantastic. They have always been behind me, even in my darkest days. Raheem and I were good friends in Liverpool, but now he is in the City, so on the pitch it's just business.',
'It's great to play again in the Premier League. For me, the injuries were a nightmare. I feel good and in shape, so I'm going to try to gain as many meetings. It was really nice to hear the words of the manager during the press conference.', added Flanagan.
