Washington Capitals dethrone the winner of the Stanley Cup Boston Bryuins after defeating with 2:1 in the seventh game of the playoff series.
Local residents came to the success after continuation and won the series in the NHL Eastern Conference with 4:3 wins.
Joel Ward scored the winning goal in overtime for Washington, and the goalkeeper of the team Brendan Holtbay save 31 shots. Matt Hendricks opened the scoring for Washington in the first third, but for Boston equalized Tyler Segin in the second part.
For the first time in the history of the NHL playoff series is decided in seven games, all finished with one goal difference. Four of the games between Boston and Washington came to extensions.
None of the teams has not duplicated their title in two consecutive seasons since Detroit in 1997/98 year.
