Two-time champion of MLB Johnny Damon will play for the national team of Thailand in qualifying for the World Baseball Classic '13. The 39 years old outfielder, who won the World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and New York Yankees in 2009, and is currently a free agent after the last time wore the uniform of Cleveland Indians during the last season in the Premier League. Despite he was born in the U.S. and even was in the U.S. composition during the debut edition of the Classics in 2006 ,Damon is eligible to play for the Asian team because his mother is Thai.

The veteran so far seems to be the only star in an otherwise not particularly fastidious composition of Thailand. Rivals the team for a spot in the Classic in March are Taiwan, the Philippines and New Zealand as the qualifications will be held at "Sindzhuan" in New Taipei City (Taiwan) after two weeks (15-18 November). The first day the hosts meet the Philippines and the Thais will face New Zealanders. Further the mini tour will continue by the scheme of double elimination.

At the same time (15-19 November) at "Rod Carew" in Panama City will be aired the last finalist in the World Classic '13. In the opening day host Panama meetsBrazil, and also will compete Colombia and Nicaragua. In the next stage the winners and losers will play each other while in the race left two teams with two wins, who will participate in the decisive match.
