2014 MLB season opens in Australia

For the first time in history, Australia will host the matches of the championship of Major League Baseball (MLB). This will happen on March 22 to 23 next year, when Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers will open 2014 season with two games at stadium 'Sydney Cricket Ground' in the town. The news revealed Prime Minister of the Australian state of New South Wales Barry O'Farrell at a press conference in Sydney this morning. This will be the seventh case in MLB championship starts outside the U.S. or Canada. The precedent was in Monterrey (Mex) in 1999, and then hosted another Tokyo (Jaap) in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 and San Juan (P. Rico) in 2001. The election of 2014 and is not random - next year is celebrating a century of demonstration matches between Chicago White Sox and New York Giants played at 'Sydney Cricket Ground' in January 1914.
