Los Angeles Lakers appointed Mike D'Antoni as head coach of the team, said AP. D'Antoni replaces Mike Brown, who was fired after the team's poor performance early in the season.

Lakers won just one win in their first five games of the campaign, and after the dismissal of Brown's have two victories.

Mike D'Antoni will sign a contract for three seasons with an option to extend for one year.

D'Antoni started his coaching career in Italy in 1990. From 1994 to 1997 he led Benetton Treviso. Then he returned to the U.S., where in 1998 took Denver. For the last in his career in NBA he was coach of New York Knicks (2008/2012).

Mike D'Antoni underwent knee surgery earlier this month and is currently recovering.
