The football player of the Portuguese national team was blinded by one eye after a ball. Jessica Silva, a 30-year-old football player Gotham, playing in the US National Women`s Football League (NWSL), spoke about the injury received in training, which led to partial loss of vision.
After the incident in training, when I received a strong blow, I was blinded on my right eye.
I went to the hospital, turned to an ophthalmologist, and then to a retinal specialist who confirmed the hemorrhage in the eye. The retina is damaged, but, fortunately, did not exfoliate. This is a good sign, but the risk still exists, so I will have to be regularly observed [with a specialist].
The restoration will take some time, since the retina is damaged. I will have to stop indefinitely. I am sad, I was happy, but this is part of the football. This is a professional risk, this happens to those who are completely given to business.
Now the most important thing is to restore vision. At the moment, I still do not see my right eye, and since the exact time of the onset of improvement is not known, I also do not know when I can play again.
I am already taking medications that contribute to recovery, but so far I have to just wait and watch how events will develop, ”said Silva.
